Jobs4Youth is a five stage program that equips participants in gaining educational and vocational credentials as well as job training as they progress. The different phases can be worked simultaneously or consecutively based on the participant's personalized assessment and are listed below:
Participants receive individualized assistence in obtaining their high school equivalency credential. Jobs4Youth will cover all fees associated with materials, tutoring and taking the actual test. You can get more information about the HSE by selecting this link.
The Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) is a portable skills credential that gives employers and career seekers a uniform, standard, objective measure of key workplace skills. It certifies that a person has workplace skills that are transferrable between industry sectors and across jobs within a sector. Jobs4Youth will cover all fees and instruction associated with obtaining a CRC for participants. You can get more information about the CRC by selecting this link.
Participants will be matched with a Qualified Employer for their Internships and receive scholarship funds in exchange for their hours worked. Youth will be compensated with grant funds that are paid as contributions to the Mississippi Affordable College Savings Program (MACS). The Qualified Employer DOES NOT PAY A WAGE TO THE YOUTH during this Internship period. A court appointed Guardian Ad Litem will administer each MACS account to ensure that only qualified educational withdrawals are made until the youth reaches the age of 21 at which time the MACS account will automatically transfer ownership to the youth. More information about MACS can be found at www.ms529.com. Employers agree to closely supervise the youth and communicate with Youth Services on a regular basis to ensure each youth is developing in job skills for the benefit of the youth. Employers agree to keep the Youth Court status of participating youth confidential.
Youth who have working towards their HSE/GED will begin a study schedule for the ACT. The ACT preparation activities will be through personal instruction, weekend workshops and online virtual classrooms as directed by the J4Y staff. Jobs4Youth will supply all study materials and cover fees for the ACT registration and testing. Students will take the first available ACT based of of the limited availability of the test provided by the state. For more information about the ACT you can select this link.
The end goal for each participant is one of three outcomes. In addition to receiving credentials along the way, each participant should end the program placed in post-secondary education, military service or be gainfully employed.
Throughout the program, Youth will be assessed and counseled as to what post-secondary education, if any, is appropriate or desirable. Each youth will receive comprehensive guidance and counseling based on their skill level and career ambitions.
Participants who are interested in enlisting in the military will be assisted in preparations to taking the ASVAB test and monitored to assure they have entered the military. If military acceptance is not forthcoming then participants will be assisted in finding employment or post-secondary education.
Youth who have successfully completed their HSE or GED and wish to attend College or Vocational Training School will be assisted in applying for financial assistance from various sources.
Participants interested in entering the workforce will be assisted in finding and applying for employment opportunities.
